Lee Sinnott was understandably a happy man following a well deserved win atthe Alexandra Stadium last night and is hoping Luke Rodgers will now set off on a run, after grabbing his first goal in a while late on in the game.

He said: "We finally got ourselves an away win and a clean sheet in midweek at Crewe, but the thing that pleased me most was the performance and how we handled the conditions. They conditions played a big part in it, but it was the same for both teams.

"We had the ascendancy in the first half and I said to the players at half time we needed to learn lessons from how Crewe handled the wind in the first half, and don't do it that way and we took the game to Crewe in the second half.

"That's the best way to do it, because if you try to settle for a 0-0 you are going to have a problem, but the pleasing thing was how we mastered the conditions. It's not guaranteed that when you get the performance, the result will follow, but the main thing was to master the wind, and we did that very well.

"The game isn't forty-five minutes long and you would expect to do well with the wind in your favour. I am sure Crewe would have been disappointed in the second half, how they couldn't capitalise on that, but just as they will be disappointed, I was delighted. The players had to stand up and be counted in the second half. There was some ugly defending needed and the lads defended well.

"We got the penalty and there were no doubts about the decision, but I thought the second one was a clearer penalty, but it ended up in the back of the net anyway. Paul Harsley had practised penalties in training earlier in the day and missed three of them, but it's what he did on the night that counts.

"Luke Rodgers was obviously delighted to score against his old side, but he needed a goal, he is a goalscorer and he will set off on a sequence, I'm sure he will. It doesn't matter if it comes off his backside as long as his name is on the scoresheet.

"I was delighted for our supporters. In a season full of grey skies, the skies have parted and a bit of sunshine has come through, but I am delighted for the fans. I have said all along, since I started this job that the team and the supporters have to be in tandem, and that was most certainly the case on Tuesday night. It wasn't a fluke result at all, it was a well-earned victory in my opinion."
