Neil Aspin

A hard-tackling no-nonsense defender, Neil Aspin joined the Vale in the summer of 1989 for a fee of £140,000, in time to play in our return to Division Two.

He soon became a regular in the side and a firm favourite with the supporters and was voted Player of the Year in 1990.

Hw was a member of the side who won the TNT Tournement in 1992 and The Autoglass Trophy the following year.

The following season he was again voted as the Player of the Year as Vale clinched promotion from Division Two and was selected in the PFA's team for that season.

He was eventually allowed to leave the club, after enjoying a deserved Testimonial, in which Robbie Williams took part, and Neil went on to manage non-league Harrogate.
