Robbie celebrates after scoring for Jamaica in the 1998 World Cup Finals |
It is well documented that Robbie was on the books of neighbours Stoke City before joining the Vale as a youngster. Born in Newcastle Under Lyme, he came through the ranks at Vale Park and eventually signed as a professional in the summer of 1982.
He made his first team debut in August of that year, when he played in a 1-0 defeat to Swindon Town and within two years he had become a first team regular.
He played in every game in 1985/1986 and was part of the team which won promotion from the Fourth Division that year and was also a regular in the side which was promoted from the Third Division in 1988/1989, scoring the decisive goal in the second leg of the play-off final, against Bristol Rovers.
Robbie was sold to Wimbledon in the summer of 1991 for a substantial figure and went on to represent Jamaica in the 1998 World Cup.
Robbie is now making a name for himself as a 'football pundit' on national television and seems to be enjoying his new career.
